Tutorial : Crystal Bracelet : Donut Thai Style Part 1
Sorry for the long wait, the tutorial is done in English now.

Yes, I got many requests asking how to make this bracelet. It seems that the pattern is only available in my country. I don't know who is the original designer of this bracelet. But I got the pattern from Thai Crystal Magazine (December 2008) so all the credit will go to them.

Tutorial : Crystal Bracelet Donut Thai Style Part 1
Level : Advance

And yes, this is quite an advance project. You need many steps to complete it. Also, my photos may be not very clear. This project was very hard for me to take the good and clear photos at the right angle. If you don't understand my tutorial, feel free to ask me or follow the patterns.

Equipment :
- Swarovski Crystal 4 mm.
- Seed bead 11/0
- Watch Clasp
- Nylon thread no. 20 and 25

You need a lot of crystals and seed beads here. My bracelet length is 7 inches. I used 294 crystals.

I use Watch Clasp, the same clasp for this tutorial. If you can't find it locally, just use any clasp with two or three holes.

I use two sizes of nylon threads. But it's optional. I use No. 20 small thread to bead the base seed bead. Just to reduce the tension inside the bead and allow me to pass many threads into the same bead.

The first few step is similar to Netting stitch. You have to make the base first and add crsytal later.

1.

First, we will make the base. Cut two No.20 nylon threads about your one arm span. String 11 seed beads.

2.

Cross the threads at a new seed bead (red arrow). Add three new seed beads to each thread.

3.

Join the threads of each side at the new seed beads (red arrows).

4.

Pick up the middle pair threads to add three new seed beads to each thread. Cross both threads at a new seed bead (red arrow).

5.

Pick up two left threads. Add new seven seed beads to the outer thread. And add three seed beads to the other. Cross both threads at a new seed bead (red arrow).

Do the same for the right side. And repeat step 4 and 5.

Note : For the length of the base, if it is for 6 inches wrist, make it 16 pairs of seed beads base. For 7 inches, 17 pairs will fit tightly. However, my clasp is 3 cm. If your clasp is smaller than 3 cm., you can make 17 pairs of base.

6.

When you're done, string back into the beads and tie the threads.

Note : Don't worry if the base seems longer than your wrist. The finished project will be tight and shorter than the base you have now.

7.

Cut two No.25 nylon threads about your wingspan (your open arms). Put the two threads into the clasp. Add two seed bead and one crystal to each side.

8.

Pick up two threads - one for each side. Put the thread from the left crystal into the right crystal (red arrow) and from right to left crystal.

9.

I will do the left side first. Pick up a thread from the left crystal and put it into three seed beads of the base. Add one crystal to the right thread of the left crystal and put the thread into the same three seed beads.

10.

Now we do the same to the right crystal. Put the right thread from the right crystal into the three seed beads of the base. Put the left thread into the new crystal we added from the previous step (red arrow) and put the thread into the three seed beads.

11.

At the left pair, add one new crystal to left thread and cross both threads at the new crystal (red arrow).

12.

Add new crystal to the left thread (red arrow). Cross both threads at the three seed beads of the base.

13.

Repeat step 11 and 12 to the right side. Pull the threads tight to pin the crystals on the base.

14.

We first do the left side again. At the pair of the left threads, add one crystal to the below thread. Cross both threads at a new crystal (red arrow).

15.

Add one new crystal to the right thread (red arrow). Cross both threads at the three seed beads of the base.

16.

We do the right side. At the pair of the right threads, put the below thread to the crystal (red arrow). Cross both threads at a new crystal (blue arrow).

17.

Put the left thread to the crystal (red arrow). Cross both threads at the three seed beads of the base.

18.

Repeat step 11 - 17 to pin the crystals to the base. Don't worry if the bracelet is a little longer than your wrist. The very last step will tighten it up.

We will do the same as we start the bracelet. You have two last crystals. At the left crystal, put the right thread to the right crystal. Put the left thread of the right crystal to the left crystal (red arrow).

19.

Add two seed beads to each side. Then add the clasp and stopper. Make sure you pull the threads tight enough, then crush the stopper. Remove the rest of the threads.

20.

You have done the first part of the bracelet. If you love it, you can stop here.

The patterns of the whole bracelet are here. Sorry, there are all in Thai.

Thank you for your hard work on all the tutorials. I've made several bracelets using the different tutorials and you have made them so easy to make. I've been doing searches to find your work and I found another bracelet that I just fell in love with. Here is the link to your picture of the bracelet:

Can you tell me if a pattern or tutorial is available for it...?
Again, thank you so much for all that you do...

I'm sorry they are all in Thai. In short, you have to do the diagram on the left first. You will get the long tube. Then, you wrap the seed beads around the tube. I tried to make the tutorial for this bracelet once, but I failed. The photos were not clear enough to make everyone understand. (Same goes to the Donut Thai Style bracelet Part 2. That's why I can't complete Part 2 yet.)

And I think the pattern is quite similar to the cover page of this Bead & Button magazine.

You may try the patterns in the link.

Hope it helps and if you have any question, feel free to let me know.

Wow
Wow, what a design! It's awesome! Can you pls translate the rest of the instructions. Just can't wait to see them and to try out
(Anonymous) on October 26th, 2009 03:07 pm (UTC)
Wow excellent!
Hie there Bee Jang,
Thank you for translating all the instructions. Glad that you have taken fast action on my request! My questions are
1) This bracelet have to be done separately for the base and the top?
2) Why is the outcome different from the picture shown at the top (the seed beads can be seen to be curved out)

Anyway, TQ very much! I really appreciate your effort!

Re: Wow excellent!
Hello and thank you for following my tutorial.

My tutorial is not done yet. There are still part two to add crystals at both sides and join the two sides together to make them curve. Actually, there are many ways to do it. But the easiest is to make the base first and pin the crystals on to the base like I did in the tutorial. I once tried to bead them altogether and I failed. LOL!

I update the pattern links in the entry. To continue right from my tutorial, please check the last two links.

:)

Re: Wow excellent!
Beejang,
To continue with part II, do we start with new string? To continue with part II, I suggest that you just translate the instructions from the link that you attached but make the pictures bigger. Will that be ok for you?
Thank you very much!!!
BeeJang: Aerith Miss Youbeejang on October 29th, 2009 10:15 am (UTC)
Re: Wow excellent!
Yes, you have to start the new string to bead the crystals at both sides. I'm also thinking of explaining the instruction from the pattern. It's much more easier to make everyone understand. :)

Need help
Hie, I've tried to follow the tutorial for part I. Basically, I understood the technique but gosh I found difficulties to go through the seed beads. Have to loosen the netting of seed beads, then the strings go all over. Maybe, you can give me some tips? TQ
BeeJang: Aerith Miss Youbeejang on October 29th, 2009 10:35 am (UTC)
Re: Need help
Yes, I also have the same problem when I did this bracelet. I have to use big eye beading needle to help me go to the difficult part. Also, use the small thread for the seed beads netting. :)

Need to ask you: Once the base is done, do we need to tie it up? Does the length follow the size of our wrist in the stretched or unstretched position?
BeeJang: Aerith Miss Youbeejang on October 30th, 2009 02:16 am (UTC)
Yes, tie the threads. String back into the beads and tie them together.

For the length of the base, if it is for 6 inches wrist, make it 16 pairs of seed beads base. For 7 inches, 17 pairs will fit tightly. However, my clasp is 3 cm. If your clasp is smaller than 3 cm., you can make 17 pairs of base.

Beejang,
I happen to bump into a shop selling swarowski bracelets and they have a piece of this design. When i scrutinized at this bracelet, it seems that this bracelet has another layer of seed beads netting beneath it. How to do this?
BeeJang: Aerith Miss Youbeejang on October 31st, 2009 04:32 pm (UTC)
Yes, the very last step of this bracelet is to do another one layer of seed beads and it will make the bracelet round. If you want to continue from this tutorial, please check the last two links. It is to add crystals at both sides. Add seed beads at both sides. And weave both sides together by seed beads to make the bracelet curved out.

I will finish all the steps in detail in tutorial Part 2 (and after I kill my lazy self).
(Anonymous) on November 1st, 2009 02:48 pm (UTC)
Yeah, pls ...I hope you can complete with the second part of the tutorial i.e. to make the bracelet curved in and then it will be cylindrical. Or if you dont mind, what about translating from the link. TQ Beejang, really appreciate your effort!
(Anonymous) on October 31st, 2009 04:17 pm (UTC)
Do you have ready-made ones? Maybe I can buy the ready made ones. How much is the price
BeeJang: Aerith Miss Youbeejang on October 31st, 2009 04:44 pm (UTC)
Actually, I had this bracelet in my etsy shop but it's now expired so you can't find it there now. I'm on the way to setup a new shop only for handmade jewelry so I let all my jewelry expired.

If you want to buy the bracelet, I have it for sales at $95 with free shipping worldwide. You can have your choice of colors.
(Anonymous) on November 1st, 2009 04:21 am (UTC)
Is the price in US dollars?
BeeJang: Aerith Miss Youbeejang on November 1st, 2009 12:05 pm (UTC)
Yes, it's in US dollar. I relist the bracelet in my shop. If you want to buy it, let me know the length too.

What a challenging design
Hi, This design is such a challenging design. I'm so eager to try it out. One question here. You did the netting first and then join it with the swarovski. Can be it be done straight away, at one go?
BeeJang: Aerith Miss Youbeejang on November 3rd, 2009 02:05 pm (UTC)
Re: What a challenging design
I believe it can be done in together at one go. But I still can't figure out how to do it correctly. I tried once but it's not the same.

numbers of cyrstal
Hello...i would like to know how many Swarovski Crystal 4 mm do i need to buy for this bracelet...thank you
BeeJang: Aerith Miss Youbeejang on February 4th, 2010 02:58 pm (UTC)
Re: numbers of cyrstal
You need 294 pieces for 17 pairs of seed bead base. If you make a smaller bracelet, you will require less crystals.

Help please
Ilove this bracelet so much but I am having problems following the instructions for step 11,12,13. I cannot see which thread goes where.
I have not done a lot of beading but I would love to be able to complete this bracelet. Would it be possible to draw lines where the thread goes. Thank you so much for all of the time you have put into translating the instructions. Best wishes Val

Re: Help please
11.

At the left pair, add one new crystal to left thread (blue arrow) and cross both threads at the new crystal (red arrow).

12.

Add new crystal to the left thread (red arrow). Cross both threads at the three seed beads of the base (blue arrows).

13. Repeat step 11 and 12 to make the other side.

Don't give up if you can't complete the bracelet on your first try. This is very advance project for the beginner. It took me many tries when I first make this bracelet too.
